Let's begin at the top- your head. In sunny Florida it's important to protect your head and face from the subtropical sun. After going thru many hats and hat styles, the Kokatat Sunwester has out shined all the others I've tried.

This nylon hat is durable, quick-drying and lightweight plus it offers UPF +40 sun protection.

• Mesh lining and forehead pad.
• Adjustable crown cinch cord and chin strap.
• Foam bill floats!
• Underside of bill has dark, non-glare surface. I've heard the older styles had a darker underside that worked even better to reduce glare.

Spray skirts are a necessity for rolling and ocean conditions. The Seal Skirt company does a fine job of fitting and production with excellent materials. My skirts are used hard and have lasted well.

Lendal paddles aren't the lightest on the market but definitely offer some great features. The winged blades are great for distance and speed on flat water but I have found care must be taken with high braces and rolling. ( Seems the trailing edge of the blade likes to dive.) Not certain whether this is entirely the paddle design or me. But, for distance and speed on flat water the winged blade is great. The Lendal design allows me to use the same shaft and change up to the standard touring blade when necessary. The standard touring blade is strong and well designed and allows me to do high and low braces plus rolls.
